CAPTIVA SUFFERS BIG "CHARLEY" HORSE!

OR HOW WE SPENT OUR SUMMER, FALL AND WINTER VACATIONS!

It's been quite a few months since Hurricane Charley left it's big ugly footprint on our barrier islands on Friday the 13th of August 2004. Captiva was slapped particularly hard as the storm veered in just north of us and did even more dirty work in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. Many properties and businesses were adversely affected. Translation: It was one heck of a big mess to clean up!

For the curious, we've posted some photos of before and after photos. We reopened full time in February 2005 with the help of hardworking tradespeople toiling in very hot weather with no electricity or water. Dishonorable mention goes out to the local, state and federal bureaucracies for their bumbling efforts on behalf of storm stricken locals.

In spite of it all, people visited in droves this past winter to catch a glimpse of disaster and buy some great artwork at Jungle Drums. Our thanks goes out to the many visitors who expressed great relief that we were back in business and to the many emails received from around the globe. You made the hard work worth it!

For the occasion, I created a special shirt design with a bit of tongue in cheek humor "Insane Hurricanes." There are lots of other new designs as well. As always, I'm happy to autograph any and all shirt designs I've illustrated shown on our site from Caribbean Soul.

Check out new artist and wood carver, Lance Lichtensteiger. We present a wonderful array of pieces that utilize 100 year old Chestnut for a very dramatic effect. His creations include many waterbirds and accepts commissions.

Go fishin' with some great catches in clay. Fran Barrett sculpts very colorful and fluid wall fish. No two fish are alike in this unusual artistic aquarium but they're all great!
