CHARLEY ALBUM

We present just a few photos of the devastation from the Hurricane. Any more is just too depressing to look at! Over 8 months of rebuilding and most of Jungle Drums is put back together and it looks fantastic!

Main exterior
Building exterior shown at right and below. Lots of trees, roofing materials and wind blown debris took months to clear. Kathleen stands at left looking for a dust pan to get started! Our famous red chair was smashed.
Exterior Day one
It was nearly a week before residents and owners were allowed back onto Captiva. In the meantime, lots of water sat in very hot conditions inside and seeped into everything. At right, Jim begins picking up debris inside the gallery where temperatures were over 100 degrees.
Floor removal
ramp Debris pile
Due to water damage, everything had to be ripped out from floors to ceiling and completely replaced. Tough job without air conditioning.
Sections of tin roof landed everywhere. Shown here is our handicapped ramp. Now the ramp is handicapped! This is a small pile of debris! Most times, it was above the deck and ran the length of the building. Amazingly, the awnings stayed put in the storm.
AC units
Pack up
Kathleen and Jim are perched atop on of the halt ton AC units that were blown off the roof. The others were lifted up by the wind and landed on the other side of the parking lot. The gaping holes in the roof let most of the water in.
Gayl and Jim pack art in stifling heat for transport off site. Enough art was packed this way to fill 2 large delivery trucks! Before shot
Clean up
BEFORE: Jim, drenched in sweat, checks out water damaged counters sometime in October 2004. Walls are in process of being pulled out and ceiling and wiring awaits repair. Note storm shutters are still up on window as more hurricanes threatened the coast.
Room 2
Stairway to the stars. Kathleen takes a break from stacking pedastals and display items to make room for carpenters to work. Eventually, it all reached the ceiling and then had to be all put back!
AFTER: Same area of gallery as shown above with new floor, walls, counters and artwork in February 2005. And we didn't even need an interior decorator! Great artwork does the job.
Three gals
3 gals, 3 beers. At the end of each day of packing art in intense heat and humidity, a cold beer was a requirement to maintain sanity. Kathleen, Gayl and Slim shown here during first round of drinks.
